Overview
The Lexidesk web widget is the visual layer where someone visiting your firm's website actually talks to your AI intake agent. It comes in three formats, and you can use any combination of them across your site. This article explains what each one looks like, who it's for, and how to install it. You don't need to write any code yourself. When your agent is ready to go live, our team sends you a short snippet for whichever option you've chosen. You (or whoever maintains your site) paste it into your website. That's it. This article helps you decide which format to ask for.
The three widget formats at a glance
Format | What visitors see | Best for |
Floating widget | A small chat bubble in the bottom corner. Click to open. | Adding AI intake to an existing site without changing the layout. |
Inline widget | A full chat box embedded directly into a page section. | Replacing a contact form, or building a dedicated intake page. |
Hero widget | A full-width hero section with chat as the main element. | Homepages and landing pages where the chat is the primary call to action. |
If you're unsure, most firms start with the floating widget on every page, then later add an inline or hero widget on the pages where intake matters most.
Option 1: Floating widget (chat bubble)
The classic chat bubble that sits in the bottom corner of every page. Visitors see a small launcher button. When they click it, the chat opens in a panel on top of your existing site.
Best for:
Firms that want to add AI intake without redesigning anything
Adding a 24/7 intake option to every page of the site
Sites where the homepage and layout are already working
Not ideal for:
Replacing a contact form (the floating widget sits on top of the page, it doesn't replace anything)
Pages where you want the chat to be the main thing visitors see
How to install: You'll get one short snippet from our team. Your web person pastes it once into your site template, just before the closing </body> tag. After that, the bubble appears on every page automatically.
Tip: You can also open the floating widget from any button or link on your site. For example, a "Contact us" link in your menu can open the chat directly instead of going to a contact page. Ask our team for the runtime event snippet when you're setting it up.
Option 2: Inline widget (embedded chat box)
A full-size chat box embedded directly into a section of your page. Unlike the floating widget, this one is part of the page itself. Visitors see it inline as they scroll, and they can start chatting without clicking anything to "open" it.
Best for:
Replacing your contact form with something that actually qualifies and converts
A dedicated "Talk to a lawyer" page or landing page
Practice area pages where high-intent visitors land (family law, immigration, personal injury, etc.)
Not ideal for:
Sites where you want chat available on every page (use the floating widget for that instead, or combine both)
How to install: We send you a single embed code for your inline widget. Your web person drops it into the exact spot on the page where you want the chat to appear. It works inside any standard website builder (WordPress, Webflow, Squarespace, custom, and so on) and inside page builders like Elementor or Divi.
The widget fills the container you put it in, so you control the size by controlling the section it sits in.
Option 3: Hero widget (full hero section)
A full-width section that takes over the top of your page. The chat is the centerpiece, alongside your headline, background image, and any award badges or trust marks. This is the most prominent option, the chat is the first thing visitors see and interact with your site.
Best for:
Homepages where you want the chat to be the primary call to action
Landing pages built around a single offer or practice area
Firms running paid ads (the chat captures intent immediately, no scrolling required)
Not ideal for:
Sites where you want to keep your existing hero design unchanged
Internal pages (about, team, blog), the floating or inline widget fits better there
How to install: The hero widget needs two things from our team: a small loader script that goes in the <head> of your site, and an embed code that goes where you want the hero to appear. Your web person handles both. On WordPress, this usually means pasting the loader into the theme header and the embed into a page section.
The hero widget is fully responsive, looks the way you'd expect on phones and tablets without extra setup.
Customizing the look
All three formats share the same customization options.
You can change:
Primary brand color
Logos
Greeting message
Trust badges and award marks (hero widget)
And more...
These are configured from your Lexidesk dashboard, not from the embed code. So once your widget is installed, you can update the look any time without touching the website again.
How to choose
Quick decision guide:
You just want AI intake on your existing site without changing anything. Use the floating widget.
You want to replace a tired contact form with something that actually qualifies and converts leads. Use the inline widget on your home and contact pages.
You're rebuilding your homepage or running paid ads. Use the hero widget.
You want maximum coverage. Use the floating widget across the whole site, plus an inline or hero widget on your highest-intent pages.
There's no extra cost for using multiple formats. Pick whatever combination fits your site.
FAQs
Who actually installs the widget on my website?
Whoever maintains your site does the install. That's usually the marketing agency or freelancer who built it, or your in-house web person. The snippet we send is short, and the install takes about two minutes for someone who knows where the site's template files live. If you don't have anyone to do this, your onboarding manager can recommend a partner.
Can I use more than one format on the same site?
Yes. A common setup is the floating widget on every page, plus a hero or inline widget on the homepage and key practice area pages. They don't conflict with each other.
Will the widget slow down my website?
No. The widget loads asynchronously, which means it doesn't block your page from rendering. Visitors see your site at normal speed, and the widget appears once the page is ready.
Can I switch from one format to another later?
Yes. Switching just means swapping the embed code on your site. Your AI agent, conversations, and configuration stay exactly the same. Ask our team and we'll send you the new snippet.
What if my website is built on WordPress, Wix, Squarespace, or Webflow?
All three widget formats work on every major website platform. If you hit a snag, your onboarding manager can walk your web person through it.
Where do I get the embed code?
Your embed code is sent to you in your go-live email, the message we send when your AI agent is fully configured and ready to handle real visitors. If you've lost the email, ask your account manager and they'll resend it.
Still stuck?
If your web person installed the snippet and the widget isn't showing up, email [email protected] with your firm name, the page URL, and a screenshot of where the widget should be. We'll look at the page directly and tell you what's missing.
