Adding Lexidesk's DNS records to your domain (and why it matters)

What DNS records Lexidesk needs on your domain, why they matter, and the fastest way to get them added on any registrar.

Written by Ivan Tryskyba

When you sign up for Lexidesk, we add a few records to your domain (the place where your website address is managed, like GoDaddy or Cloudflare). These records let Lexidesk send emails from your firm's name instead of ours, and send compliant SMS follow-ups from a verified number. This article walks through what the records do, then gives you the fastest way to get them set up on the most common domain providers.

Why this matters

Two things happen on your domain during setup:

  • We add Mailgun records (for email). Mailgun is the service Lexidesk uses to send email on your behalf. These records tell Gmail, Outlook, and Yahoo that Lexidesk is allowed to send emails from your domain, so your intake confirmations, consult booking links, and follow-ups come from an address like [email protected] instead of a generic sender. Without them, your firm's emails get flagged as spam and leads never see the message.

  • We add Twilio records (for SMS). Twilio is the service Lexidesk uses to send text messages. These records register your sender as compliant so US carriers don't block appointment reminders or follow-up links sent by text. We only add Twilio records if SMS is turned on for your account, which usually means you're booking consults through Lexidesk and sheduling links delivered via text.

In plain terms: without these records, your firm's emails will land in spam and your SMS follow-ups won't send. That hurts conversion and your reputation.

The fastest way: invite our onboarding specialist

You don't have to touch DNS records yourself. In practice, the fastest setup we've seen is when a firm invites our onboarding team into their domain provider. We log in, add the records, confirm everything is verified with Mailgun and Twilio, and close the job out with you.

The invite gives us permission to manage DNS records only. We never see your billing, can't transfer your domain, and you can revoke our access the moment setup is done.

Invite email to use: [email protected]

Below are step-by-step instructions for the five most common providers. Pick yours and follow along. If your provider isn't listed, skip to the Other providers section at the bottom.

How to invite Lexidesk on your domain provider

GoDaddy

GoDaddy calls this feature Delegate Access. It lets you grant us permission to manage your domains without sharing your password.

  1. Sign in at sso.godaddy.com/access. This is the GoDaddy Delegate Access page.

  2. Under People who can access my account, click Invite to Access.

  3. Enter the name Lexidesk Onboarding and the email [email protected].

  4. Under access level, select Domains Only. This lets us edit DNS without touching billing, payment methods, or ownership.

  5. Click Invite.

GoDaddy will email us the invitation, and we'll accept it, usually within an hour.

Tip: GoDaddy invites expire in 48 to 72 hours if nobody accepts. If you don't hear from us within one business day, email [email protected] and we'll track it down.

Namecheap

Namecheap calls this feature Share Access. It grants another Namecheap user permission on a specific domain.

  1. Sign into your Namecheap account.

  2. In the left sidebar, click Domain List, then click Manage next to the domain Lexidesk will send from.

  3. Click the Sharing & Transfer tab at the top.

  4. Scroll to the Share Access section. In the New Manager field, type [email protected] and click Add.

  5. Under the permission options, check all boxes under Advanced DNS so we can add the records we need.

  6. Enter your Namecheap account password to confirm, then click Confirm.

Namecheap sends us an email invitation that's valid for 7 days. Once we accept, we'll finish the setup.

Cloudflare

Cloudflare is common with more technical firms. You invite us as an account member with permission to edit DNS.

  1. Sign into the Cloudflare dashboard at dash.cloudflare.com.

  2. Select the account that owns your domain.

  3. In the left sidebar, go to Manage Account > Members.

  4. Click Invite.

  5. Enter [email protected] as the invite email.

  6. Under Scope, you can limit our access to just the domain(s) Lexidesk will send from. If you have multiple domains in Cloudflare, we only need access to the one used with Lexidesk.

  7. Under Roles, choose Administrator. On paid plans, you can also use a more granular DNS role if available. Both let us add the records we need.

  8. Click Continue to summary, review, and send the invite.

Important: To invite members, your Cloudflare user needs the Super Administrator role on the account. That's the role you got automatically when you created the account. If you're logging in as a different user, switch to the Super Admin or ask whoever is.

Squarespace Domains (including domains moved over from Google Domains)

If your domain was originally registered with Google Domains, it now lives in Squarespace. The steps depend on whether your domain is attached to a Squarespace website or parked on its own.

For a standalone or parked domain:

  1. Sign into Squarespace and open your Domains dashboard.

  2. Click the domain Lexidesk will send from.

  3. In the left panel, click Permissions.

  4. Click Invite domain manager.

  5. Enter the name Lexidesk Onboarding and the email [email protected], then send the invitation.

If your domain is attached to a Squarespace website:

The button will say Invite Contributor instead of Invite domain manager. Click that, enter the same name and email, and toggle Administrator on so we can edit DNS. Squarespace doesn't separate DNS from site contributors when they share permission settings.

Network Solutions

Network Solutions uses account-level user roles. The Tech role gives us DNS access without exposing billing or registrant information.

  1. Sign in at networksolutions.com.

  2. Click your username in the top right and choose Accounts & Users.

  3. If you have multiple accounts, click Manage next to the one holding your domain.

  4. Scroll to the User Roles & Permissions section and click + Add User.

  5. Enter the name Lexidesk Onboarding and the email [email protected].

  6. Select the Tech role. This is the right role for DNS work. We don't need Admin.

  7. Click Invite.

We'll get an email from Network Solutions to accept access. Once accepted, we can configure your DNS directly.

Other providers (Wix, IONOS, Hover, Bluehost, 123 Reg, etc.)

If your registrar isn't listed above, you have two options:

  • Check your registrar's settings for an option called "delegate access", "share access", "invite user", "add contributor", "team members", or "user roles". Pick the permission level that mentions DNS or Advanced DNS (sometimes called "Tech" or "Manager"), and invite [email protected].

  • Email us and we'll send you the records directly. Email [email protected] with the name of your domain provider. We'll either reply with the exact records (host, type, value) for you or your IT person to paste in, or we'll hop on a quick screen share and walk through it together.

Troubleshooting

We never received the invite from my domain provider.

The invitation may have hit a spam folder on our side, or the link may have expired. If you haven't heard back from us within one business day, email [email protected] and include the name of your domain provider plus a screenshot of the invite screen. We'll track it down.

My IT person or web agency wants to add the records themselves.

That's completely fine. Email [email protected] and ask for the Mailgun and Twilio records for your account. We'll send the exact list (host, type, value, priority) for your IT person to paste in. Plan for about 15 minutes of work plus DNS propagation time.

Adding DNS records sounds risky. Will it affect my website or existing email?

Adding the Lexidesk records will not affect your existing website or email. We only add new records for sending through Mailgun and Twilio. We never modify or delete records that your website, work email, or other services depend on. Before saving, we review the current setup so nothing breaks.

How long before everything starts working after the records are added?

Most providers apply DNS changes within a few minutes, but it can take up to 24 hours for the records to fully propagate across the internet. If a test email from Lexidesk doesn't deliver correctly right away, give it a few hours before escalating.

FAQs

Can I revoke Lexidesk's access once setup is done?

Yes, you can revoke Lexidesk's access once setup is done. Every provider above lets you remove a delegate, member, or contributor from the same screen you used to add them. The DNS records stay in place after we're removed, so revoking access doesn't break your email or SMS sending.

What if my firm doesn't use SMS follow-ups?

If your firm doesn't use SMS follow-ups, we only add Mailgun records for email. Twilio records are optional and only added for firms that book consults through Lexidesk. You can turn SMS on later, and we'll add the Twilio records when you do.

Does Lexidesk charge for this setup?

No, Lexidesk does not charge for DNS setup. It's included in onboarding on every plan.

Can I just send Lexidesk my domain login instead?

Please don't share your domain login. It's less secure, and most registrars' two-factor authentication and recovery flows are tied to your account in ways that make shared logins fragile. The invite flow is faster and safer in every case we've run into.

Do I need to be technical to do this?

You do not need to be technical to do this. Every step above is a handful of clicks inside your domain provider's dashboard, and the invite path hands the technical work to us. If you get stuck on any screen, screenshot it and email [email protected] and we'll guide you through it.

Still stuck?

Email [email protected] with your firm name, your domain, and the name of your domain provider. Include a screenshot of the screen you're on.
